I first met Dave a number of years ago when we connected online about the O'Neill family and he drove down to Indy on business and we managed a genealogy visit as part of that. We later met in Summerfield, Ohio, at a Horton Family reunion, as the two of us represented Anne Horton, who married John O'Neill. We corresponded several times and always enjoyed hashing over O'Neill family points.
David
O'Neill (1937 - 2014)
David graduated from Michigan Technological University in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics and was a proud member of the Mu Kappa Mu fraternity. He remained active his entire life in the fraternity alumni, serving as Treasurer until he became ill. He also earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Lawrence Institute of Technology in 1975.
David proudly served in the United States Air Force following his graduation from MI Tech, working as a meteorologist. Following his service to his country, he made his career with the General Electric Corporation from 1962 until his retirement in 1997. He was a lifelong member of the Michigan and National Societies of Professional Engineers, serving in multiple capacities, including President and Treasurer. Following his retirement, David moved to Port Huron, MI, where he joined the Marysville Lions Club and served as their Treasurer for many years. He also cherished being a member of the Polish Boat Club and the Men's Breakfast Fellowship within his church, the First Presbyterian Church of Port Huron.
He was a world traveler, a passionate genealogist, avid boater and golfer, and had a tremendous love of Irish music.
He is survived by his life partner Nadine Lovell (Grosse Pointe, MI), his sons Brian (McPherson, KS), and Mark (Michele-Toledo, OH), grandsons Aaron (Toledo, OH) and Ajay (Janelle-Redmond, OR), his daughter Kristie (Jim Mitchell-Southfield, MI), his son Craig (Tanya-Henderson, NV), grandson Aiden Griffin, step-son Commodore Josh Reyher (Kim-New Orleans, LA), granddaughters Elinor, Molly and Tabitha, step-daughter Dr. Jennifer (Dr. Andrew Drescher-St. Louis, MO), grandchildren Anna, Ian and James.
Memorials may be made to the Marysville Lions Club or his fraternity's fund ("Gamma Alpha Plan"), and can be mailed in care of Kristie O'Neill Mitchell, 28115 Fairfax St., Southfield, MI 48076. The family is planning a tribute to celebrate his life, to be scheduled close to St. Patrick's Day, 2015.
